The Dangerous Deception of Divination: Why God is the Only Truth

So many people today are drawn to tarot cards, manifestation, astrology, crystals, and the idea of connecting with their “higher self.” It feels harmless and spiritually enlightening. These practices promise clarity, guidance, and control over your future.

At first glance, these things don’t always seem harmful. They are often presented as fun, healing, or empowering. They promise answers, clarity, and control over the future. But behind the glitter and aesthetic is a dangerous lie—a counterfeit designed to pull people away from the only true source of life and guidance: God Himself.

The Bible warns us: “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). The enemy does not come with a pitchfork and horns. He comes disguised as “truth,” “self-love,” and “light,” when in reality, it’s spiritual deception.

Why People Are Drawn to Divination

Deep down, every human longs for answers. We want to know the future, feel secure, and believe that our lives are in our control. Practices like tarot, astrology, pendulums, or manifestation feed that desire.

They whisper, “You have the power to attract blessings. You can create your destiny. The universe is on your side.”

But notice where the focus always is—it’s on you. Not God. Divination teaches us to worship the creation (ourselves, our desires, or the stars) rather than the Creator. And this has been humanity’s struggle since the Garden of Eden. When Satan tempted Eve, he promised her: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). At its root, divination is humanity trying to take God’s place.

Imagine you are in a near-death experience, who do you call out to for help? Your “higher self” can’t save you. Only God can.

From Tarot to Truth – My Experience

I want to be honest—this isn’t just theory to me. I once fell into these practices myself.

Once I found myself dabbling in tarot cards, pendulums, crystals, and angel numbers. At first, it felt exciting—cards would “fly out” as if the universe was speaking, pendulums swung to answer my questions, and angel numbers appeared on clocks. It felt like something bigger was guiding me.

But then one day, in the middle of it all, a chilling thought of discernment came over me:

“It’s lying to me…”

I was being told what I wanted to hear, not what was true.

God was gently revealing the truth to me. None of these practices was His Spirit speaking to me. They were counterfeits—designed to mimic the real thing while drawing me deeper into deception.

And here’s what hit me: I believed the practices because I saw these things happen with my own eyes, but that’s exactly what made them so weak. They had to prove themselves through signs and actions, unlike true faith, which rests on trust in God’s unseen promises. That’s when I realized there must be a greater, truer power above all of this—one that doesn’t rely on parlour tricks, but on eternal truth. Compared to God, these things were empty, fragile imitations.

What the Bible Says About Divination

The Bible never downplays divination. It doesn’t dismiss it as just silly games or superstition—it calls it dangerous.

  • “Do not practice divination or seek omens.” (Leviticus 19:26)
  • “Let no one be found among you… who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells… Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 18:10–12)
  • In Acts 16:16–18, Paul encounters a slave girl who could predict the future through a demonic spirit. She wasn’t pretending. It was real—but it wasn’t from God. Paul cast the spirit out in the name of Jesus.

These verses remind us that the spiritual realm is not a game. The enemy uses what looks beautiful—tarot decks with pastel illustrations, crystals that sparkle in sunlight, angel numbers that seem reassuring—but the reality is that these are snares pulling people away from Christ.

Only God is Divine

The Bible makes it clear that only God knows and controls the future:

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jeremiah 29:8-12

8 Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have.
9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the Lord.
10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.
12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

A Call to Freedom

Maybe you’ve tried tarot, manifestation, or angel numbers and feel like they gave you comfort for a season. But the truth is, they will never satisfy your soul. They will only keep you chasing the next “sign” or reading.

You don’t have to live in confusion or deception. You don’t have to keep asking the cards or the universe for answers. God is inviting you to turn away from the counterfeit and step into the truth of His Word.

Your future isn’t found in the occult. It’s in Jesus Christ. And in Him, you are safe, secure, and fully loved.
