Help others this autumn! As the summer winds down and autumn begins, it’s important to remind ourselves just how blessed we truly are. God showers us daily with His grace—through family, friends, opportunities, and even the simple joy of a crisp fall morning.

This fall, let’s take that truth to heart by sharing kindness and serving others in our communities. Whether through time, talents, or resources, your acts of love can make a real difference in someone’s life.

Here are five ways you can spread kindness and serve others this Thanksgiving season:

1. Join a Turkey Trot

Turkey Trots aren’t just a fun way to exercise before the big Thanksgiving meal—they’re also a chance to support charities that provide meals and services to those in need.

Many businesses, universities, and churches organize local or even virtual runs so you can join in from anywhere.

This is a joyful way to spend time with family and friends while supporting causes that help others.

2. Deliver Holiday Cheer

Not everyone can afford festive decorations or treats, but small touches of warmth can brighten someone’s season. You could:

  • Bring pumpkin centrepieces to a senior home.
  • Create baskets with cookies, hot cocoa, and candles for struggling families.
  • Make handmade cards for hospital patients or nursing home residents.

A simple act of cheer reminds others that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.

3. Volunteer at a Community Event

Fall is full of school sporting events, church gatherings, and local festivals—all of which need extra hands. Even if you don’t know much about sports or event planning, there’s a role for everyone:

  • Selling tickets or concessions
  • Setting up chairs and decorations
  • Handing out programs
  • Serving food
  • Cleaning up

When you give your time, you bless others in ways that money never could.

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.” (Ephesians 6:7)

4. Donate Warm Clothing & Blankets

As the weather cools, coats, scarves, and blankets become lifelines for those without shelter or security. This season, consider:

  • Sort through your closet for extra items.
  • Donating to local shelters, Goodwill, or the Salvation Army.
  • Joining a church-run clothing drive.

Even one coat can mean the difference between cold and comfort for someone in need.

“If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” (Luke 3:11)

5. Volunteer Through Cooking

Food is one of the most powerful ways to bless others, and many organizations welcome volunteers in the kitchen. You could:

  • Serve meals at a soup kitchen or work at a food drive to support those experiencing food insecurity.
  • Help prepare or serve dinner at a senior home, sharing not just food but companionship.
  • Volunteer with Ronald McDonald House or hospital housing programs, providing comforting meals for families in medical crisis.
  • Join a church or community meal night, where meals are cooked and shared with neighbours in need.

This is a tangible way to reflect Christ’s love and remind others that they matter.

Kindness doesn’t have to be complicated. This fall, reflect on God’s blessings in your life—and then look for ways to pour that same love back into the world. Whether through food, clothes, time, or encouragement, every act of kindness is a step of faith in action.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
