Fruit of the Spirit-Grow in Faithful Love: A Daily Devotional

What Is the Fruit?

Paul explains this in Galatians 5:22–23:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

These aren’t things you achieve by trying really hard. They grow naturally when the Holy Spirit is alive and active in you. These fruits are the evidence that your heart is being transformed.

And that’s why Jesus also says in Matthew 7:16

“You will know them by their fruits.”

In other words, our outward actions are always revealing our inward condition. Our fruit shows what we are truly rooted in.

When your roots are in Jesus, everything changes. You’re no longer feeding off the world’s lies — you’re nourished by His truth. You don’t live in fear — you live by faith. You don’t produce sin — you produce fruit of the Spirit. You are rooted under Christ, the True Vine. Your roots are in righteousness, and your fruit begins to change (Galatians 5:22–23). The heart is no longer hardened (Ezekiel 36:26), and your desire for sin is uprooted.

What Are You Rooted In?

You can spend your whole life trying to manage your sin — plucking off the bad fruit — but if your desires remain the same, it will grow back.

Real change doesn’t happen when you try harder. It happens when you are made new.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you…” (Ezekiel 36:26)

So today, ask yourself: Am I rooted in Christ — the True Vine? Am I producing fruit that reveals His Spirit in me? Or am I still living off the old tree — the one that started in the garden?

A Prayer to Be Rooted in Christ:

O Jesus, True Vine of my soul,
I consecrate my heart to You completely.
Make it tender and fruitful in Your Spirit.
Remove all roots of sin, and plant within me the seeds of Your love.
I trust in You.
I desire to bear fruit that glorifies the Father.
May my life be a living garden of Your grace.

Amen.
